Sergio, whose career as a stuntman came to an untimely end on the set of an American film, tries to make ends meet by doing odd jobs, like acting as a centurion at the Colosseum. Meanwhile, his sister, Maria, with whom he shares an apartment, works from home for an erotic chat line. They drift along in this way until, one day, Milan, an illegal immigrant from Belorussia, arrives and turns their lives upside down. To get work, Milan is prepared to become Sergio’s slave, taking over his centurion role. The enterprising migrant is soon a big hit with the tourists: to beat the competition, Milan, an engineer back home, builds a chariot modelled on the one in the film “Ben Hur”. Their extraordinary encounter translates into a great money-making opportunity for Sergio and, for Maria, an improbable love story with consequences both hopeless and comic.
